My Personal advocacy journey
One of my favorite quotes that inspires me as a professional educator and as an advocate for the North Carolina Pre-kindergarten program is " in play [ the child] reveals his own original power." - Friedrich Frobel. I think that this quotes inspires me because working with children I have observed them learning new concepts in play and socialization skills that are needed throughout their life. I think that what has excited me the most about becoming an advocate is that I get to be the voice for the program, the children in the program, their families, the teachers and the staff that work tersely to organize and plan for this program so that children who's family can not afford private preschool can have a place for their children to learn, explore, and socialize with others and preparing for the primary academic career. One of the challenges that I think I may face during my advocacy is that making sure I have current up to date information on the program and how many students it has helped. I believe that by working with the counties ( Vance county) the county I live in pre kindergarten program coordinator I will be able to over come this challenge and other challenges that may occur during the time of researching and putting together my plan. I would like to give my fellow colleagues the advice of making sure that you plan ahead, have a notepad handy to take notes that you may need, set up interviews with the person who specializes in this area and to build up a network of resources that can be of assistance in your plan.

There is nothing better then being a voice for a program. I love your quote. A child's real power is definitely revealed through play. Thanks for your insight. I wish you luck as you work through these last few weeks.
ReplyDeletePlay is such an important part of learning! I am so excited for your advocacy. I believe gathering information is vital to keeping whatever new programs you develop alive. It would be such an asset to spreading the advocacy to other programs. I love your advice, and it is something I would remember. I can't wait to see where this leads you!
ReplyDeleteLawanda I wish you the best. I am in Wake county so we are not that far from each other. North Carolina has a long way to go in the area of preschool education. Although the NCPreK program is a really good program for at risk children and those with low incomes. Let me know if I can help you in any way. I am a preschool administrator with lots of resources in this area.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Detrius I would love to meet up with you and get your insight on this manner I agree we have a long way to go I think our rural areas get hit the hardest.
ReplyDeleteLaWanda,
ReplyDeleteI love that quote! I am so writing that down and sharing it with the director of the center I am at. You have a great advocacy plan in the making. We are the voices for many reasons. In my opinion we are the voice for the children. The note pad idea was a great tool that I think we all should use. Being able to refer back to notes has also helped jogged my memory. Thanks girl!
